In Wisconsin, protesters threw a statue of an anti-racist in a lake

Protesters in the capital of the American state of Wisconsin have organized riots and threw into the lake a statue of the colonel who fought against slavery, according to the publication Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Demonstrators protested in the streets of Madison on Tuesday night over the arrest of a black man protester a day earlier. Overnight, the demonstration escalated into riots, protesters hit windows, attacked Senator Tim Capenter for taking pictures of the protests, and demolished two statues.

One of them, unlike similar incidents in other states, was the statue of Colonel Hans Christian Hague, who fought for the Union against the Confederate States during the civil war and advocated the abolition of slavery. According to the newspaper, the protesters deprived the 100-year-old sculpture of its head and threw the statue into the lake.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the arrest of anyone who tries to destroy or vandalize monuments and statues on the territory of the country and threatened the attackers with sentences of up to 10 years in prison.
All over the U.S. against the backdrop of protests after the death of African-American George Floyd, a spontaneous demolition of monuments to Southerners during the Civil War began at the hands of police. It also affected the statues of Christopher Columbus, America’s discoverer, who is accused by left-wing activists of genocide against indigenous Americans.
