The European Union demanded that the Belarusian authorities and personally Alexander Lukashenko immediately release political opponents and potential candidates for the presidency – Viktor Babariko and Sergei Tikhanovsky.
According to Deutsche welle with reference to the comment of European Parliament deputy Michael Galera, the European Union is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and all those responsible for the prosecution of the opposition.
“All this is real Stalinism. We demand that the regime stop such actions. If this does not happen, we will be forced to choose funds from the arsenal that we have for such cases. Let’s start with individual sanctions against those responsible for what is happening. Their visas may be revoked, possibly blocking accounts – now it’s still not concrete, we haven’t gone that far yet. But if you look at the sanctions imposed against Russia, you can understand in which areas restrictions are possible, ” said Galer.
