Ambassador of Russia to the US say Putin’s article evoked interest in the State Department

An article by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Second World War aroused significant interest in the US State Department and initiated a discussion. This statement was made by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Washington, Anatoly Antonov.

According to him, diplomats sent the article to the leadership of the State Department, to leading non-governmental organizations, embassies of a number of leading Western European states and to the diplomatic missions of the CIS.

The US State Department, according to Antonov, became interested in the Nuclear Five summit, which Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested holding in his article on World War II. This meeting should determine the contours of international politics and strengthen security in the world, the ambassador emphasized.

The head of the diplomatic mission noted that Russia has accumulated questions for the United States regarding their plans and steps to change the architecture of strategic security. He emphasized that Moscow cannot but be bothered by the US withdrawal from the ABM, INF and Open Skies treaties.

Antonov added that experts drew attention to the timeliness of the publication of the article by the Russian leader and the need to “put all points on i, speculation about who started the war and who won it”.

Representatives of the US Foreign Ministry want to study how the approaches proposed by Putin can be used in modern life, the diplomat emphasized.

Spokesman for the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that every fact of reading Putin’s article could cause many to “wonder”.
