People began to gather in the evening in the center of the Belarusian capital on the square near the building of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society, which housed tables with signature collectors, and a line of dozens of people lined up. Citizens also expressed their solidarity with previously detained several participants in the presidential campaign. Soon, however, police and riot policemen approached the meeting and said that the event was illegal.

OMON fighters blocked the exit from the metro to the Philharmonic, surrounded the square. Riot police detained several participants in the election picket and journalists in the center of Minsk.

The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for August 9. May 21 began collecting signatures of voters to nominate candidates. June 19 is the last day for collecting signatures. The next stage – registration of presidential candidates – will be held from July 5 to 14.
