The Economic Times: India will buy 21 MiG-29s from Russia

As reported by TASS with reference to the newspaper The Economic Times, Indian military sources said that the Indian Air Force plans to purchase 21 supersonic MiG-29 fighters from Russia.

“The Indian Air Force intends to purchase 21 Russian MiG-29 light fighters, including two trainers, to replace the MiG-21 fighters, which will be completely decommissioned over the next five years,” the source told the publication. “The acquisition of the MiG-29 is necessary to enhance the combat capabilities of the country’s military aviation.”

The Government of India is ready to consider this proposal of the Air Force. Deliveries of the MiG-29 may begin two years after the signing of the agreement with Russia, sources said.
