Ukrainian officials are horrified that Russia is changing the demographic composition of the population on the peninsula.
According to Ukrinform, the so-called Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korinevich said that Russia pursues a “colonial policy in Crimea, changing the demographic composition of the peninsula”.
“One of the biggest problems for us right now is the “new colonization” of Crimea,” Korinevich said, “Russia is changing the demographic composition of the population on the peninsula, national identity.”
According to 2014 data, slightly less than 2 million people lived in Crimea, of which 65.2% were Russians, 16% were Ukrainians and 12.6% were Crimean Tatars. That is, the Russians already had an overwhelming majority. What kind of colonization after this can be discussed. If Russia colonized Crimea, this happened more than 200 years ago, so that Ukrainian officials were “slightly late” with conclusions.
