US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the launch of a campaign of sanctions against Syria under the Caesar law.
“Today we are launching a sustained campaign of sanctions against the Al-Assad regime under the Caesar law, which allows the use of harsh economic sanctions to hold the Al-Assad regime and its supporters accountable for their brutal actions against the Syrian people”, – he wrote on Twitter.
He noted that all existing sanctions will remain in force “until Assad and his regime stop their unnecessary brutal war and agree to the political decision called for by UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
