President Donald Trump has promised to reduce the number of American troops in Germany to 25,000.
“As you know, Germany has overdue its payments to NATO”, – said the White House head.
The President reminded that Berlin only pays one percent of the GDP and must pay two percent.
He noted that the US military spends a lot of money in a European country.
“Wherever there are bases, Germany thrives”, – Trump said.
The American president also wondered why Washington should help Berlin if the German authorities are not going to pay.
Trump said the contingent will be reduced by almost half, since Germany now has about 50,000 U.S. troops, he said.
“Why does Germany pay billions of dollars for energy to Russia and the US have to protect them from Russia? This is not the way to do it”, – added the President.
