Trump announced a police reform decree but it won’t help.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday will present an executive order on police reform amid growing calls for action after the death of African-American police officer George Floyd.
He added that he would give a speech on Tuesday announcing this decree.
Senior officials in the administration told journalists that the decree would encourage the police to review the use of force and would also help to better monitor police actions. The Decree also seeks to encourage joint police and social services response programmes.
According to a senior administration official, the decree provides for the practice of recruiting police from local communities “to bring the police closer to the communities. He noted that the decree was developed after discussions with law enforcement officials and representatives of families of the deceased at the hands of the police.
In the United States, mass protests against racism and police brutality have been taking place since the end, triggered by the death of unarmed African American George Floyd, who died after being detained by police in Minneapolis.
