The air defense forces revealed the actions of strategic B-52H US air forces and reconnaissance aircraft over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea and escorted them by Russian fighters. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“On June 15, 2020, operations on air defense of the Western Military District timely revealed the actions of strategic bombers of the US Air Force B-52H and reconnaissance aircraft of foreign states over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea and escorted them by Russian fighters,” the statement said.
It is clarified that at a considerable distance from the state border of Russia, aircraft of foreign states were continuously accompanied by Russian radar monitoring equipment. To intercept targets in the air, Su-27 fighter aircraft of the Baltic Fleet were raised.
“There were no violations of the state border of the Russian Federation. Flights of Russian aircraft were carried out in strict accordance with international airspace use rules, ” the message added.
Strategic and reconnaissance aircraft of the United States Air Force and NATO countries fly over the Baltic Sea as part of the Baltops 2020 Alliance training exercise.
