How did Ukraine get the status of a NATO partner?

Ukraine’s received the status of NATO partner with advanced capabilities (EOR). What provides for participation in such a program? How do experts assess the situation? And what are the forecasts for the near future, taking into account the lack of West support for the ‘Ukrainian project’? Follow us and you’ll find out the truth.

Well, Ukraine is a partner of NATO… What’s next?

Participation in this program provides for enhanced cooperation in the field of intelligence and providing opportunities for representatives of partner countries to obtain positions at headquarters or in NATO structures.

This program was established at the Alliance Summit in September 2014 to provide individual partner countries with mechanisms to achieve and maintain maximum compatibility with NATO.

Here I would like to draw attention to the date of the decision’s adoption – September 2014. During this period it became clear that Ukraine would not be able to do one “anti-terrorist operation”, moreover by that time a full-scale war was actually unfolding in the south-east of the country. We will not consider conspiracy theories, but the coincidence is really strange, if it is really a coincidence, but not a logical result.

The fact of Ukraine becoming a NATO partner with advanced capabilities is not surprising. Let us recall the events that happened a year ago. In Brussels on June 4, 2019, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky during a joint briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the course towards gaining full membership in the European Union and NATO remains the same foreign policy priority of Ukraine.

Since then, Ukraine has taken enough steps to attract attention and gain the coveted status: reforms have been carried out in the Armed Forces, they tried to transfer to NATO standards, they even enlisted Ukraine’s desire to join NATO to the Constitution … In short, they rang the doorbell of the Alliance in every possible way, but even after 5 years there was still not enough desire in the North Atlantic Alliance to continue to take care of the eternally distressed Ukraine. Nevertheless, in Ukraine this event is also perceived as another victory.

Who is lobbying Ukraine?

The largest opposition political force in Canada – the Conservative Party – was one of the first to congratulate Ukraine on expanding cooperation with NATO and declared support for its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

This was announced on Twitter by the deputy from the Conservative Party and shadow Secretary of Defense of Canada, James Besan.

“Congratulations to Ukraine on becoming a partner of the NATO Enhanced Opportunity Program! Conservatives have always supported Ukraine’s desire to join the Alliance and are proud to have launched the UNIFIER operation to train NATO’s Ukrainian military standards, ” the report said.

Recall that this party had previously advocated the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine to the detriment of supplies to the Kurds in Iraq. It is not necessary to remind once again who supports Iraq and how this could be connected with the current situation in the South-East of Ukraine, the answer is obvious – the U.S.

The long-term and ultimate goal of the Americans and Europeans, who provoked a coup in Ukraine in February 2014, is the acceptance of this former Soviet republic into NATO. This was written by the Politics First’s Editor Marcus Papadopoulos in a special commentary for the English edition of News Front.

“In the scenario where Ukraine is a member of NATO, Russia would be completely and dangerously encircled on its western borders by the Western-military bloc. Further to that, NATO would be in an advantageous position upon which to challenge Russia for mastery of the Black Sea. As each day, week, month and year passes, Ukraine is moving closer to NATO membership,” the political analyst notes with regret.

Why is Ukraine still not joining NATO?

Until 2014, the majority of the country’s inhabitants opposed Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, after 2014 the results did not change much, but the government changed and its curators became uncomfortable with continuing to hide their 10-year presence in the country (starting with the first color revolution on Maidan in 2004 year).

After the outbreak of hostilities against the will of the people of Donbass, the polls sharply changed their results, and supposedly the number of opponents of membership in the organization changed diametrically. Now more than 50% of the country’s citizens want Ukraine to join NATO. Whether this is somehow connected to the fact that a new government has come, that want to “pull” money from whatever possible, may only be guessed.

However, the desire of Ukrainians to join the alliance is contrary to the desire of its old members, who do not want to accept Ukraine into the organization. First of all, they are opposed by Germany, France, Italy, who do not want to completely break off economic relations with Russia. The enemy camp is complemented by Hungary. However, the situation after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic may change significantly, because NATO has shown its weakness against the background of Russia’s might, strength and friendly assistance.

In general, experts note that such a move represents an ongoing and increasingly desperate attempt by NATO and its European assistants (mainly Britain and Poland) to make NATO a global organization.

“This is specifically designed to annoy Russia and continue the arms race and the Cold War,” said William Mullinson, a former member of Her Majesty’s diplomatic service, multinational public relations manager.

Step into the abyss …

The next step for Ukraine after gaining an expanded partnership with NATO is to provide Ukraine with an action plan for NATO membership, but this requires the approval of all allies. Will such a will be a big question for today …

Linking Ukraine to NATO and including it in the Enhanced Opportunity Program (EOP) is the wrong step. Since 2014, a bloody civil war has been going on in Ukraine, in which nearly 15,000 people died. As long as there is no peace in the Donbass, this is a danger to all other NATO countries, a danger to Russia and a danger to world peace. This opinion was expressed by the deputy of the Parliament in Berlin, Gunnar Norbert Lindemann.

“It also sends the false signal to the Russian government. It is time to end the sanctions and develop a peace plan for Donbass. The people in the war zone don’t need any further provocations, but peace at last,” the deputy comments.

Mr Lindemann also said that the Human Rights Commission in the Bundestag is currently developing a possible peace plan.

“Unnecessary provocations, such as the further connection of Ukraine to NATO, only disturb the possibility for peace in Donbass,” the expert summed up.
