Moldovan authorities to send extradition request to oligarch Plahotniuc in USA

Moldovan law enforcement agencies will hand over documents to the US authorities to extradite the oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, who fled the country, being accused of involvement in the theft of €1 billion from the country’s banking system.

This was announced by the press secretary of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova Emil Gaitur.

The statement was made after the judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the request of the lawyers disputing his arrest.

“The Appeals Chamber rejected the request of the lawyers of the accused Plahotniuc and upheld the decision of the Chisinau court, which issued a 30-day arrest warrant against him. At this stage, the Office of the Attorney for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases will hand over to the US authorities all case materials regarding Plahotniuc for his extradition”, – the statement said.
