Ambassador in Belgrade outlined key topics of Lavrov’s visit to Serbia

The issue of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo will be one of the key issues during the upcoming visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Serbia, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Harchenko said.

The arrival of the Russian Foreign Minister in Belgrade is scheduled for June 18. During the visit, he is expected to meet with President Alexander Vučić and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.

“Serbia will always have Russia’s support in resolving the Kosovo issue. It will be one of the key issues during the visit of Sergei Lavrov on June 18, according to the current preparations for the meeting”, – the Russian ambassador said on the national television of Serbia.

Botsan-Kharchenko noted that this will be the first foreign visit of the Russian Foreign Minister after the COVID-19 pandemic, “which is a significant symbol”.

According to the diplomat, Moscow is concerned about the lack of proposals and the readiness to restore dialogue between the leadership of Serbia and the Kosovo Albanian authorities “on the basis of the same approach to Belgrade and Pristina”.

“With the necessary pressure on Pristina and taking into account and respecting the interests of Serbia within the framework of international law and the UN Security Council resolution 1244”, – the head of the Russian diplomatic mission emphasized.
