The mobile laboratory deployed in Armenia by the Russian military conducted about 7 thousand tests for coronavirus, Russian Ambassador to Yerevan Sergey Kopyrkin said during an online press conference on Thursday.
On April 7, the press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defense Shushan Stepanyan said that specialists from the Russian Armed Forces arrived in Armenia to assist in the fight against coronavirus infection. According to her, the group is equipped with a mobile laboratory for research on COVID-19. The laboratory was deployed in Yerevan on April 8.
“The latest Russian mobile diagnostic laboratory makes a significant contribution to the fight against infection in Armenia. During the work here, Russian specialists conducted about 7 thousand tests”, – the ambassador said.
He recalled that the Russian side initially handed over one and a half thousand tests to Armenia, and twice more sets of test systems for 20 thousand tests each, as well as reagents, were free of charge transfered to the Ministry of Health.
“We informed the Armenian side this year that Rospotrebnadzor has allocated additional funding for the production of laboratory diagnostics of coronavirus to provide logistical support to partners and its readiness to continue assisting Armenia. Rospotrebnadzor donated 8 Russian-made cars to the inspectorate for health and labor of Armenia”, – the diplomat said.
On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 7.1 million cases of infection have been identified in the world, more than 408 thousand people have died.
