On Tuesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry again refused to participate in trilateral arms control talks with Russia and the United States.
According to Interfax, the U.S. President’s Special Representative for Arms Control, Marshall Billingsley, offered China to change its decision and still take part in arms control negotiations with the U.S. and Russia.
“China has just announced that it does not intend to participate in trilateral talks. This decision has to be reconsidered. Achieving great power status requires responsible behavior inherent in a great power. There is no longer a Great Wall of secrecy around its nuclear arms build-up. China is waiting for a chair in Vienna”, – Billingsley tweeted.
Recall that the United States and Russia will hold a meeting on arms control in Vienna on June 22. The U.S. will represent Billingsley and Russia will represent Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
