Europe wants to be prepared for the next pandemics

Leaders of leading European countries have addressed a letter to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Reuters, a number of European leaders, including Angela Merkel and Emmanuelle Macron, urged the EU to prepare for the next pandemics.

“Europe was not sufficiently prepared for the pandemic and called to explore the best means to respond to such challenges in the future”, –  said in a letter from the heads of EU countries, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuelle Macron, as well as the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Spain, Belgium and Poland to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

European leaders emphasize the importance of developing a unified approach for the whole EU – in particular, in the case of the “second wave” of Coronavirus pandemics, as coordinated action can yield better results than the efforts of each individual country.

In particular, it is proposed to establish a permanent stock of medical supplies and medicines and to establish cooperation that would allow for the timely production of essential goods in times of crisis.
