An improvised bomb exploded in the Syrian city of Kobani on the route of a Russian military police patrol, the Reconciliation Centre said.
“In the morning of June 9 <…> when the Russian car turned around at the end point of the route, an explosive device was detonated under it”. – the statement specifies.
No one was injured in the incident. The military safely returned to the base.
Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held six-hour talks last autumn, which resulted in the signing of a ten-point memorandum of understanding.
The document provided for the entry on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey outside the zone of operation “Source of Peace” units of the Russian military police and the Syrian border guard. Their purpose is to facilitate the withdrawal of Kurdish detachments and their weapons 30 kilometres from the Syrian-Turkish border, and to conduct joint patrols.
Later, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the early withdrawal of Kurds from the security zone. Reconnaissance flights and mine clearance began. During the patrol, servicemen are moving in Russian armored vehicles “Tiger” and “Typhoon”.
