Haitian police officers protested in Port-au-Prince, demanding that the authorities raise salaries and issue bonuses for their work in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic. Two journalists were injured in the clashes, reports Prensa Latina on Sunday.
It is noted that the injured journalists are Haitian citizens and work for local publications. According to the agency, several hundred police officers took part in the protests. Law enforcement agencies used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
Statements with similar demands were made in February. At least two people died and nine others were injured in clashes with the army. The protests resumed in April, with protesters claiming that the police authorities had not paid their salaries for the past six months.
