Demonstration against police arbitrariness in the US was held in Vienna

About 50 thousand people took part in the demonstration of the Black Lives Matter in Vienna against police violence motivated by racism in the United States, the Vienna police press service told the reporters on Tuesday.

“According to police estimates, about 50 thousand people took part in the demonstration. Everything went peacefully, there were no disturbances”, – the source said.

A massive rally in memory of African-American George Floyd began on Human Rights Square. The audience – mostly young people – reached the Karlsplatz square. They carried posters that read, “Black life matters,” “Dark skin is not a crime.” The posters were mostly in English.

Also, many demonstrators were masked with the words “I can not breathe” – the last words that Floyd said before his death.

The death of 46-year-old Floyd, whose detention ended in tragedy, caused a wave of protests throughout the United States. Demonstrators oppose racism and police brutality. Peaceful rallies were accompanied by pogroms, which led to the involvement of the National Guard forces to maintain order.
