Poland threatens Gazprom with a fine of € 50 million

The Polish Competition and Consumer Protection Authority has launched an investigation against Gazprom and is threatening it with a fine of € 50 million for refusing to cooperate in the case of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

“The head of the Competition and Consumer Protection Authority has filed a lawsuit against Gazprom for refusing to cooperate during the antitrust investigation,” the statement says, “Gazprom faces a fine of up to € 50 million for refusing to provide information”.

At the beginning of 2020, the head of the Polish regulator asked Gazprom to transfer documents on this case, in particular contracts concluded with companies financing the construction of Nord Stream 2, for the transfer, sale, and storage of gas.

“The rules are clear and the same for everyone, but Gazprom several times refused to provide documents related to our investigation. The Russian gas giant cannot act against the law, so I filed a lawsuit against Gazprom to impose a fine for refusing to provide information during the trial, ” said the head of the Polish department, Tomasz Hrustny.
