In April alone, the English Channel successfully crossed 550 illegal migrants.
According to the French Le Figaro, citing data from the border police, in April 550 illegal migrants successfully crossed the English Channel, who arrived in Britain on 41 makeshift ships. Another 506 were detained on the coast of Calais before they managed to go to sea.
“Such an increase is explained by good weather conditions, a reduction in the ability to get from France to England in another way (via a tunnel or by ferry) due to the health crisis, as well as the self-isolation regime, due to which the police received fewer signals from local residents about suspicious activity on the coast. In addition, carriers could easily identify patrol cars in cars that rarely drive along the coast, ” explained Jean-Philippe Naon, chief of the Border Police Service.
According to the policeman, evidence from migrants proves that smugglers are constantly changing their working methods. So, if before the boats were delivered to the beach by trucks, and at the last moment they were inflated, now carriers, as a rule, hide them in the sand and vegetation on the beach. Departure is organized late at night, and not in the early evening, as it once was.
