Zakharova assessed the words of Trump about the “obsolete” G7

The opinion of the US President Donald Trump about the “obsolete” format of the G7 summit is going in the right direction, but the meeting itself in this form does not provide truly universal representation, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the reporters.

Earlier, Trump announced that he was going to postpone the G7 summit until September and invite four countries to it – Russia, India, South Korea and Australia. According to him, the “Group of Seven” in its composition does not accurately reflect what is happening in the world. This is a very obsolete group of countries”.

“The idea of an expanded meeting of the Group of Seven, in principle, goes in the right direction, but does not provide truly universal representation. It is obvious, for example, that without the participation of China it is hardly possible to realize serious undertakings of global significance”, – Maria Zakharova said.

According to her, the position of the Russian side on this issue is well known – it is impossible to resolve issues of world economic policy “within the framework of exclusive clubs of Western countries”. At the same time, the very essence of the fact that Trump considers the G7 in its current form to be a “very obsolete group of countries” that “does not reflect what is happening in the world” was recorded in the Russian Foreign Ministry, which is agreed.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that today there is an effective and well-established format – G20, where both G7 and BRICS are presented, “and in general the leading centers of economic growth and political influence of the whole world, and not just one part of it”.
