The protest was caused by the death of the American George Floyd during his detention by the police. According to local authorities, about 5 thousand demonstrators gathered at Dam Square.
Demonstrators chanted slogans against racism and racial discrimination. They also carried posters that read: “Black lives matter”, “Stop killing black people”, “Justice for Floyd”, “Silence is betrayal”.
The organizers expected that only 250-300 people would take part. However, according to the corporation, several thousand people came to the square. Because of this, maintaining a distance of 1.5 meters between people due to measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus was not possible. However, the police on the spot did not intervene in the situation and write fines, which could amount to 395 euros.
