German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas criticized the decision of US President Donald Trump to break off relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), calling it “the wrong signal at the wrong time”.
Trump said earlier that the country is ending relations with WHO because the organization “refused to carry out the required reforms”. According to him, the United States will redirect these funds to the whole world for urgent health needs.
“The decision of the US President Donald Trump to stop collaborating with WHO is the wrong signal at the wrong time”, – said Meath.
According to him, to combat the coronavirus pandemic, “international cooperation is needed, not unilateral national steps”.
“We need a coordinated and solidary response from all states and the UN with a strong WHO at the center”, – the Funke media group minister said.
He announced his intention to conduct intensive negotiations to convince the US government of this approach. The minister warned that the number of infected continues to grow, and the crisis is spreading to new countries. According to Maas, it would be right to draw a lesson from the pandemic and carry out the necessary reforms.
On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 5.9 million cases of infection have been identified in the world, over 367 thousand people have died.
