Lavrov and UN Secretary General discussed the situation in Libya and the fight against COVID-19

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed with the UN Secretary General Anthony Guterres the situation in Libya and the response to the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“During the conversation, the main attention was paid to the problems of the Syrian and Libyan settlement with a focus on certain aspects of the UN’s activities in these areas, as well as the work of the World Organization to respond to the consequences of the new coronavirus pandemic”, – the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a telephone conversation.

The Russian side “noted the priority of speedy resolution of the issue of leadership of the UN mission in Libya in the context of the ongoing degradation of the situation in this country”, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Lavrov emphasized Russian support for the work of the UN and its specialized agencies aimed at coordinating the efforts of member countries in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and its socio-economic consequences.

The parties discussed ways to increase the effectiveness of global cooperation in this area, expand multilateral cooperation on the platform of the global Organization, said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
