The coronavirus pandemic has caused enormous economic damage to EU countries, which makes them even less interested in anti-Russian sanctions.
This was told by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in an interview with TASS.
According to him, it will be extremely difficult to compensate for losses in the economic sphere, and this fact forces us to revise the sanctions policy. Schroeder emphasizes that under the current conditions, the exchange of sanctions is a “completely wrong path”, and the approach will have to be changed “in any case”.
The EU needs to understand that it needs Russia with its resources, without which European industry would not be able to function normally. At the same time, he noted that the Russian Federation could benefit from cooperation with the EU.
“One thing is clear: the Americans are far away, and Russia is our neighbor,” Schroeder said. – We need the resources that Russia has, we need a market for the export industry. Therefore, we are especially interested in enhancing economic cooperation. ”
