Plahotniuc’s lawyer: oligarch fled Moldova, but he is innocent

Accusations against the famous corrupt official Vladimir Plahotniuc “cannot be proved”, however, the oligarch continues to hide from justice.

The defense of a key person involved in the theft of a billion dollars from the banking system of Moldova published a press release stating that the charges against Plahotniuc “can never be proved”.

The publication also says that the charges are allegedly politically motivated, and the Moldovan leadership “is trying to influence the act of justice through public statements”.

“We want every trial in our country to be fair, impartial and independent of any political influence”, – the press release said.

As News Front previously reported, Vladimir Plahotniuc fled Moldova last year after an unsuccessful coup attempt. Then, following the results of the parliamentary elections, the Party of Socialists teamed up with the pro-Western bloc “ACUM”, forming a majority in the legislature. Plahotniuc, then head of the Democratic Party, refused to recognize the alliance and tried to usurp power in the country. The situation was settled with the assistance of Russia, the European Union and the USA, after which Plahotniuc hastily left Moldova.
