Beijing calls on Washington to immediately stop harassing Chinese students and impose restrictions against them, since violations of their rights will become an act of political and racial discrimination, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijiang said at a briefing on Friday.
“If the US government takes measures that violate the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students in the United States, this will become an act of political and racial discrimination, a serious violation of human rights”, – the diplomat said.
According to him, “China calls on the United States to immediately end the harassment and restrictions on Chinese students under any pretext”.
Earlier, the New York Times, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported that the US Presidential Administration Donald Trump plans to cancel visas for students and researchers from China who are related to universities associated with the People’s Liberation Army of China.
According to some US officials, the new measure could affect at least three thousand students, including those working on important research projects. In total, about 360 thousand Chinese students study and work in the USA.
