Trump brought down shares of the largest social networks

Now the leadership of Twitter, Facebook and Google Alphabet will have to be responsible for the materials posted by users of social networks.

This is reported on Thursday, May 28, by Reuters, at the disposal of which was a draft decree of US President Donald Trump on tightening control over social networks.

The document proposes to revise legislation that exempts online platforms from legal liability for materials published by their users. In addition, the White House intends to launch a tool that will allow people to report cases of online censorship. In the future, the data will be transmitted to the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.

As News Front previously reported, the head of the White House threatened to close social networks due to the suppression of a conservative position there. The fact is that the Twitter administration noted Trump’s publications as unreliable.

The decree should be signed today, however, according to the press service, this is not planned in the president’s schedule. The White House declined to comment, Reuters notes.

The prospect of tightening controls has already undermined the position of companies in the securities market. So, Twitter shares before the opening of trading fell by more than 4%, Facebook – by almost 2%, Google – by 1%.
