The poverty rate in Ukraine will reach 45%

Since the beginning of the pandemic, experts have revised the forecast for impoverishment, increasing the percentage by 15 points.

This statement was made by Minister of Social Policy Marina Lazebnaya in a commentary to the Left Bank publication.

The official said that she consulted on the issue of poverty with the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research Ella Libanova. Referring to expert forecasts, Lazebnaya noted that poverty in Ukraine could reach 45%, although at the beginning of the pandemic the forecast was at 30%.

The minister also complained that the corona crisis prevented Ukraine from reaching the lowest poverty level of 19.9%. According to her, such an indicator was observed in the country in 2008, and it could be achieved in the next three years.
