Media says Johnson will travel to Brussels in June for Brexit talks

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is about to fly to Brussels next month for his first personal talks with European leaders in more than four months.

It is reported by “European truth” with reference to The Times.

David Frost, British chief negotiator for Brexit affairs, invited Johnson to meet with the presidents of the European Commission and the Council to formally assess the status of the negotiations.

Frost again ruled out any extension of the Brexit transition period after December 31 of this year, which should have been agreed at the summit.

EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier reiterated that Brussels is open to extend the transition period and the negotiation period.

Negotiations on a new agreement that covers everything from trade to fisheries and security have reached an impasse even before a key deadline was set – the end of June, when the bloc and London were to evaluate the progress made.

Britain withdrew from the EU on January 31, but the basic conditions for its membership remain valid for the transitional period until the end of this year, which gives it time to negotiate a new free trade agreement with the bloc.
