At least seven military personnel were killed in a clash with militants of the radical Taliban movement in the province of Parwan in northeastern Afghanistan, Tolo News reported, citing a statement by the representative of the provincial governor, Wahida Shahkar.
“At least seven Afghan troops were killed, another injured when the Taliban attacked a checkpoint in the north of Parwan province on Wednesday evening”, – Shahkar said.
At the same time, according to a source in the security service, at least 10 troops were killed as a result of the attack on the checkpoint.
The confrontation between government forces and militants of the Taliban radical movement in Afghanistan continues despite efforts to launch the peace process. At the end of February, at a ceremony in Qatar, the United States and the Taliban signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war, which provides for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the start of an inter-Afghan dialogue in March after a prisoner exchange deal.
