The NHK TV channel reports that at the meeting, the Japanese prime minister intends to propose the creation of an international body to manage patents for potential coronavirus vaccines.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe intends to participate in a face-to-face summit of the Group of Seven (G7) leaders, if it is held in the U.S. in June. This was announced on Wednesday by the NHK television channel.
It is noted that at the meeting, the prime minister intends to propose the creation of an international body to manage patents for potential vaccines against coronavirus. The main goal of this initiative is to ensure stable supplies to developing countries.
On his return from the USA to Japan, Abe will have to spend two weeks in quarantine due to measures to protect him from coronavirus. He will carry out his duties remotely from his residence.
“With regard to Prime Minister Abe’s presence at this year’s G7 summit, the matter is being worked out. In addition, the U.S., which is the presiding country, in turn is working out the agenda and format of the summit. We will respond appropriately”, – Japanese Cabinet Secretary General Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference in Tokyo.
White House spokesman Kaylie McInani said on Tuesday that the U.S. hopes to hold the G7 summit closer to the end of June in a face-to-face format. Last week Trump said that the summit is likely to be held in the White House. Before that he said he was considering holding the meeting at his country residence in Camp David.
