The American Indian communities are dying, the coronavirus spares neither the elderly nor the youth, the economy of the tribes is destroyed, but the federal government continues to ignore the indigenous population.
This is stated in the publication of The Washington Post, authored by Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and Congresswoman also from the Democratic Party Deb Haaland.
The authors note that for several generations the federal government has ignored all the promises made to the indigenous population. This approach could not but have an effect in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Currently, COVID-19 is devastating indigenous communities, killing young people and the elderly, destroying the tribal economy,” the publication said.
So, the pace of distribution of the coronavirus on the Navajo nation Indian Reservation last week was higher than in any state. In New Mexico, Native Americans make up only 11% of the population, however, they account for more than 50% of all infections.
