The World Health Organization (WHO) claims that trials of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as a possible treatment for coronavirus have been suspended due to safety concerns.
Tests in several countries are “temporarily” suspended as a precaution, the agency said Monday.
This happened after a recent medical study showed that the drug may increase the risk of death for patients from Covid-19.
President Donald Trump said he took the drug to ward off the virus.
The US president has repeatedly promoted the antimalarial drug, contrary to medical advice and despite warnings from health officials that it could cause heart problems.
