The world is still in the middle of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
This statement was made by the Director of the World Health Organization for Emergencies Mike Ryan.
In this regard, he recalled that while in some countries the number of infected people is on the decline, in Central and South America, Africa, as well as South Asia, this figure continues to grow. Ryan did not rule out the “second peak” in those countries where the first wave has already subsided. Moreover, he emphasized that the level of infection could grow faster if the current quarantine measures were canceled too soon.
“We must also be aware of the fact that the disease can break out at any time. We cannot make the assumption that just because the disease is at a declining stage, it will continue to decline further. We have several months to prepare for the second wave, which could lead to a second peak, ” Ryan stated.
