Financial structures in the Baltic countries are used as an instrument of pressure on Russian-language media.

In the Baltic, banks have become an instrument of pressure on objectionable journalists

Such a statement was made by the chief editor of the Sputnik Estonia agency Elena Cherysheva.

Estonian banks have already threatened to close the personal accounts of agency employees under the pretext of sanctions. Even those journalists who had long since quit their jobs or published a single article were hit.

A similar situation is observed in Latvia, where banks close personal accounts of freelancers, although Sputnik does not even have an editorial office there.

“Unfortunately, the banks used as a tool of pressure against us,” stated Cherysheva.
