Trump announced the withdrawal of the United States from the Treaty on Open Skies

The U.S. President said he had a good chance of reaching a new agreement.

U.S. President Donald Trump, in connection with Washington’s intention to withdraw from the Treaty on Open Skies, announced a good chance to reach a new agreement.

“Russia and I have developed a very good relationship. As you know, we worked together on the problem of [production levels] of oil. I think we have a very good relationship with Russia, but Russia didn’t stick to the [open skies] agreement”, –  Trump told reporters Thursday on the White House lawn before flying to Detroit. – Because they didn’t, we’re getting out [of the deal]. At the same time, this is a very good chance to make a new deal or get the deal back.

The United States is a party to many agreements in the world, he said.

“When we face these things, we also get out [of the agreements]”, –  the U.S. administration chief added.

“We have an agreement, but the other side does not abide by it. There are a lot of cases with [other] treaties that we also get out of”, –  Trump continued. – “What’s happening is that we’re withdrawing from a treaty. But we can go back and make an agreement.”

“We have very good relations with Russia, look at what happened in the oil sector”,  – the president added. According to him, agreements with the participation of Russia and Saudi Arabia within the framework of OPEC+ to reduce oil production allowed to save millions of jobs in the U.S. energy sector.

“Oil is getting stronger now”, –  said the White House head.

“Our relations with Russia are developing very well. <…> They’ve been cooperating with us in recent months, we’re working on the [Treaty on Open Skies]”, –  the president said. – “When you have an agreement and the other side doesn’t respect it, you don’t respect it either. But I think we’re working on something positive.”
