The United States is unlikely to accept any restrictions on its missile defense system, but it is prepared to discuss missile defense with Russia. This was announced by the special representative of the US President for arms control Marshall Billingsley.
“The US president has publicly stated that he will not allow any restrictions on the US missile defense system,” said Billingsley.
He said that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov had already informed him that he intended to discuss missile defense and other topics in the upcoming talks with him.
“I’m sure that we will have such discussions, I can’t stop him from raising these issues. We will talk. But I would say that the Russians will have to make an incredibly impressive proposal, I can’t even imagine what if the US president would change this position, if at all possible. There will be negotiations, but I do not foresee any restrictions on the US missile defense system, ” he said.
