China’s decisions regarding its Hong Kong Special Administrative Region must be consistent with US law.
Such a statement on Friday, May 22, made the head of the US State Department Michael Pompeo.
As News Front previously reported, the Chinese government is introducing Hong Kong’s national security law. The document, among other things, criminalizes foreign interference and undermining state power in this administrative region of China. Thus, the implementation of anti-government activities is complicated here. This has already sparked criticism from the United States, as it complicates Washington’s support for the Hong Kong radicals.
In this regard, Pompeo “urged” Beijing to “revise its catastrophic proposal.” He emphasized that the US administration “condemns” China’s decision to fight riots in Hong Kong and considers it “one-sided.”
