New unemployment record in the US

Last week alone, the number of Americans out of work increased by about 2.5 million.

This is reported by the agency “Bloomberg,” citing the forecasts of analysts.

As you know, on Thursdays, the U.S. Labor Department provides a daily report. However, preliminary data from experts already indicate that the total number of unemployed for two months of the coronavirus epidemic in the U.S. will be about 39 million.

In particular, according to a survey conducted by the Census Bureau, every second respondent said that he or a member of his family had lost their income from work since mid-March. However, about 40% expected the situation to last no longer than a month.

The situation was commented on by Stanford University economist Nicholas Bloom, who warned that 42% of all dismissals would lead to “permanent loss of employment.

“I hate to say this, but it will take longer and look darker than we thought”, –  he said.
