In the regions that supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, the number of deaths from coronavirus is three times higher, especially in the regions that voted for Donald Trump.
On Thursday, May 21, reports Reuters, citing an analysis of demographic data and public health data.
So, according to media reports, the indicators are 39 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants among Democrats versus 13 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants among Republicans.
The disproportion is due to the fact that for the most part supporters of the Democrats are residents of large American cities. At the same time, Republicans are usually supported by residents of remote suburbs or rural areas.
As an example of supporters of the Democratic Party, the agency names New York – the American epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic. Now there are recorded 195 thousand infected and almost 16 thousand deaths.
However, trends persist outside New York. Democratic districts in 36 of the 50 US states report higher mortality rates than republican districts, media reported.
In the state of Maryland, where coronavirus killed 2 thousand people, in conservative districts the mortality rate is 4 times lower than in democratic ones.
In Kansas, where 152 deaths from COVID-19 were recorded, two counties supporting Clinton made death statistics. There, the level is 7 times higher than in the rest of the state.
