The pilot managed to eject. He was promptly taken to a hospital at Eglin Air Base.
The US F-35A Lightning II multirole fighter bomber crashed during a training flight in Florida. The pilot survived. This was reported on Twitter at Eglin Air Base on Wednesday, May 20.
“The F-35A fighter of the 58th fighter aviation squadron (part of the 33rd fighter wing – ed.) Crashed today, on May 19 at 21:30 during landing at Eglin airbase. Pilot successfully catapulted and was transported to the hospital of the 96th medical group at the Eglin airbase to assess the physical condition and further observation”, – the press service said.
It is indicated that the aircraft performed the planned night training flight. During the incident, people and civilian objects were not injured.
An investigation is underway.
It should be noted that this is the second accident of the fifth generation aircraft in the United States this week, which are assigned to the Eglin air base. On May 15, the F-22 Raptor multi-role fighter crashed. The pilot was able to eject.
Recall that in September 2018, the newest F-35B fighter crashed for the first time in the United States. He crashed in South Carolina.
