Twelve soldiers died and ten were injured in an attack by the radical Boko Haram group in the Diff region of southeast Niger, France Presse reports referring to the Ministry of Defense.
The attack on the military post occurred on the night of Monday to Tuesday. Seven militants were eliminated, the ministry said.
In Nigeria, the radical Islamist group Boko Haram, also known as the “West African Province of the Islamic State*”, operates. Its militants oppose the Western model of education and push for the introduction of Sharia throughout the country. The group stands behind most of the attacks regularly committed in response to the military campaign against it carried out by Niger, Cameroon and Chad.
