Washington tried to rewrite WHO rules so as not to help poor countries

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing ambassadors of African states to the United Nations.

According to media reports, Washington diplomats demanded to change the wording of the resolution of the World Health Organization in paragraphs that oblige to assist poor countries in combating the pandemic. Among other things, such states have the right to receive a vaccine without acquiring a patent.

It is noted that representatives of African countries did not contribute to the scandalous adventure of the United States. However, they have concerns that Washington will create obstacles, not wanting to lose money. In the US, they are sure that they will be the first to receive the vaccine.

Ellen Yeat Hohen, head of the Drug Law and Policy Research Group, said in turn that rich countries may indeed not provide vaccines to poor nations. In this regard, she drew parallels with how, for decades, African countries could not get drugs for HIV.
