US President Donald Trump admitted that Washington was never interested in a victory in Afghanistan.
He wrote about this on his Twitter in response to an article in The Wall Street Journal.
In the article, the newspaper cautioned against harsh decisions regarding Afghanistan, where US officials are trying to expedite the conclusion of a peace agreement between the radical Taliban movement and the government in Kabul ahead of the planned reduction of the US military.
Trump explained that the United States did not particularly strive for this victory:
“Someone please explain to them that we have been there for 19 years. In addition, there is no consensus in the Taliban about our departure. They make a lot of money in our presence, and, except at the very beginning, we never really fought for victory. We looked more like the police than the mighty military forces we are, especially now that we have recovered. So I don’t act impulsively! ”
