Political scientist says Trump is trying to “put pressure” on WHO

The US President Donald Trump put forward a condition for continued funding by the World Health Organization. Political analyst Vladimir Mozhegov expressed his view on the situation.

Washington will completely cease funding for the World Health Organization (WHO) and revise its membership if the organization does not carry out the reforms that the United States requires within 30 days, said the US President Donald Trump in a letter to the director of the organization, Tedros Gebreyesus.

According to the head of the White House, his administration investigated an unsuccessful WHO response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“This test confirmed many serious concerns that I raised in the last month, and revealed others that WHO had to respond to, especially the alarming lack of independence of the organization from the PRC”, – Trump said in a message on Twitter.

The US President demands that WHO “undertake significant substantial improvements”, among which is “manifestation of independence from China”. Trump also notes that he has already begun to discuss with WHO the issue of reforming the organization.

“Of course, all this lies in Trump’s election strategy – he needs to find those enemies who ar to blame for everything. And in this sense, China and WHO are ideal targets. On the other hand, WHO is a globalistic supranational structure, and there there are a lot of people from the Democratic Party who played against Trump. If he wins the election, I think his rhetoric will change – both with regard to China and WHO. But now he wants to put pressure on WHO, and he can do it – stop financing and try to reformat this office”, – Vladimir Mozhegov says.

In April, the US president announced the suspension of WHO funding, accusing her of not responding quickly enough to the outbreak of coronavirus and not informing the public about it in time.

Criticism was voiced against the backdrop of the difficult situation with the US pandemic, which came first in terms of both the number of diseases and the number of deaths, as well as accusations against the president himself that he had introduced the measures necessary to combat the pandemic too late.

According to the latest data, almost 4.4 million people are infected in the world, more than 300 thousand have died. In the United States, more than one and a half million cases, over 90 thousand of which are fatal.
