Gazprom has begun design and survey work on the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline. This was announced by the head of the Russian company Alexey Miller.
“On behalf of the President of Russia, Gazprom began design and survey work on the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline,” TASS quoted Miller as saying.
According to him, the goal of the project is to connect the gas transmission infrastructure of the West and the East of Russia, gasification in Eastern Siberia.
“Also, Power of Siberia-2 may become the basis of a new export channel through Mongolia to China with a capacity of up to 50 billion cubic meters, ” he added.
At the same time, he pointed out, the Yamal gas will be supplied to Europe and Asia.
At the end of March, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Miller, approved the transition to developing a feasibility study for the Power of Siberia-2.
At the end of 2019, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping took part in the launch of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline.
In early May, RT wrote that analysts at the US Congress recommended examining the implications for the US side of Russian-Chinese energy cooperation and the commissioning of the Power of Siberia.
They argued that a partnership between Moscow and Beijing could lead to lower exports of US liquefied natural gas.
