The US President Donald Trump said that Washington is considering various options for changing WHO funding, including reducing its contributions to 10%.
Trump in April announced the suspension of WHO funding. The Trump Administration accuses the organization of not responding quickly to an outbreak of coronavirus. At the same time, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not rule out that Washington would never restore the suspended funding of WHO.
“Lu, this is just one of the many ideas under consideration, according to which we will pay 10% of what we paid for many years, which corresponds to significantly lower payments from China. We have not yet made a final decision. All funds are frozen. Thank you!” – Trump commented on Twitter by journalist Lou Dobbs about the possibility of a partial recovery of WHO funding.
On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 4.3 million cases of infection have been recorded in the world, over 297 thousand people have died.
