The administration of the US President Donald Trump may renew funding for the World Health Organization (WHO), but it will do so to the same extent as China, Fox News reports referring to a letter to WHO Director General Tedros Adhan Gebreyesus.
Trump in April announced the suspension of WHO funding. The Trump administration accuses the organization of not responding quickly to the outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19. At the same time, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not rule out that Washington would never restore the suspended funding of WHO.
According to the letter, the Trump administration will agree to restore funding for WHO, but will provide the same amount that China pays. It is noted that the United States sees certain shortcomings in the work of WHO, but believes that the organization has great potential.
“If China increases funding for WHO, then the US will consider the possibility of increasing”, – the letter said.
On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 4.3 million cases of infection have been recorded in the world, over 297 thousand people have died.
